What are the thoughts of the events on Total Defence Day in Holy Innocents High School

Total Defence Day falls on the 15th of February every year , and every year on this day Holy Innocents High School ( HIHS ) will have an event where all the Uniform Groups ( UG ) such as our National Police Cadet Corps ( NPCC ) , National Cadet Corps ( NCC ) , Scouts and St John’s Ambulance Brigade ( SJAB ) march a parade and the school’s principal , Mrs Rebecca Chew , will read a speech about how we as independent individuals can protect our country with other forms of defenses other than military defense such as civil defense , economic defense etc . In the speech they will also explain to us , the students , teachers and staff of HIHS , about what each pillar of defense is for , such as Social Defense is about being friends with everyone and accepting our similarities and differences in order to create peace and harmony in our country , and Digital Defense which is also our newest pillar of defense is about being safe and cautious online , this sixth pillar was added as part of the Total Defence’s 35th anniversary .
” We should never take our defence , whether be it psychological , emotional or military , for granted . This is to safeguard our country sovereignty , racial and religious harmony . In addition , students , should be inspired at a young age so they would be prepared for life . ” said Mr Singh , one of the form teachers of class 2 Love . ” I usually celebrate this by watching a parade organised by the teachers , the principal , the vice principal and the student council . ” said Ezanne Ong , the vice chairman of class 2 Love . Amelie Er , a student from 2 Love and a cadet of the UG group , NPCC commented , ” Yes , I enjoy the events held by the school every year especially when I can participate .And yes , NPCC has to do the events organised by the school every year as one of the uniformed groups in our school . “
Total Defence Day is especially important to the uniformed groups as most are part of the military defenses , however it also shows us that military is not the only defense only few of us people can do . ” As what Amelie has also said , ” Total Defence Day is about why we must learn to be independent and defend our own country instead of relying on other countries to help us like when we relied on Britain , yet they surrendered to the Japanese that day . “
